Das Foto eines Rentners, der weinend vor einer Bank in Thessaloniki sitzt, sorgt in den sozialen Netzwerken für Aufsehen. Bei dem Mann handelt es sich um den 77-jährigen Giorgos Chatzifotiadis. Der Nachrichtenagentur AFP schildert er, wie er bei drei Banken gewesen sei, um für seine kranke Frau wenigstens einen Teil der Rente zu ergattern. Doch fand er sich stets vor verschlossenen Türen wieder. Die vierte Bank sei dann geöffnet gewesen, dennoch habe er kein Geld für seine Frau bekommen. „Da bin ich einfach zusammengebrochen.“ Chatzifotiadis und seine Frau haben mehrere Jahre in Deutschland gearbeitet – von dort stammt auch die Rente seiner Frau. „Ich habe hart gearbeitet“, sagt der Rentner. Nun erträgt er es kaum, wenn Menschen auf den Straßen um ein paar Cent für Brot betteln. „Europa und Griechenland haben Fehler gemacht.
